The north-facing wall of Artspace111 is currently a blank canvas — but not for long.
The downtown Fort Worth art gallery is calling for muralists to paint the exterior facade of Artspace111’s iconic 109-year-old building. Artspace111 intends to choose one artist or artist team based in Texas, encouraging "innovative ideas and diverse use of media/materials that create an accessible work for all and contributes pride to our community." The gallery has budgeted $8,000 for the project, including the cost of supplies and equipment rental.
According to Artspace111, about 24,000 drivers on Weatherford Street pass the north-facing wall every day leaving downtown Fort Worth. The red brick wall measures approximately 72 feet by 22 feet, but artists aren't limited to that space — the gallery says it's open to ideas for murals that wrap around to the west-facing side of the building or murals that leave exposed brick.
Artists wishing to apply will need to submit a PowerPoint presentation to [email protected] by Jan. 15, 2021. The gallery will notify artists by Feb. 1, 2021, and the mural is to be completed by March 15, 2021.
Details about the presentation requirements and other information are available at Artspace111's website.
