Historic Fort Worth, Inc.
The HFW celebration will showcase both the Fuller house at 4167 Charron Lane and the Chiles house at 1300 Shady Oaks Lane.
Historic Fort Worth, Inc. (HFW) has been hard at work preserving Fort Worth’s unique historic identity through stewardship, education and leadership for the past 50 years. It’s now time to celebrate their mission and accomplishments.
Established in 1969, the group has been instrumental in many critical preservation efforts that have helped Fort Worth retain much of its character and charm throughout the past half century. The organization was even honored with the Texas Historical Commission’s Governor’s Award in Preservation in 2009.
Historic Fort Worth, Inc. also stewards two historic house museums ― the 1904 Wharton-Scott House known as Thistle Hill and the 1899 Ball-Education-McFarland House, which are Fort Worth’s first and second landmarks, respectively.
They plan to honor the vision and leadership of their founders and first board members on Thursday, Nov. 7, with a two-part event at a couple of Fort Worth’s mid-century masterpieces.
Famed architect A. Quincy Jones was known in Hollywood as the architect to the stars. In 1953, he was commissioned by Andrew Fuller to bring some of his glitz and glamour to Fort Worth. Jones designed another home in town as well, for Eddie Chiles in Westover Hills.
The HFW celebration will showcase both homes. The Fuller house at 4167 Charron Lane and the 1962 Chiles house at 1300 Shady Oaks Lane are the only two houses that Jones designed in the state of Texas. The Fuller House was spared from a wrecking ball as recently as 2016.
The evening will begin at the Fuller house between 5:30 to 7 p.m., with light refreshments and self-guided tours, followed by a lecture by Ms. Brooke Hodge, Director of Art and Architecture,at the Palm Springs Museum of Art and author of a definitive book “A. Quincy Jones: Building for Better Living.”
The celebration continues with cocktails, dinner and self-guided tours at the Chiles house at 7 p.m. There will also be a show and sale of remarkable jewelry from the estate collection of Kubes Jewelers, a percentage of which benefits HFW.
