This week the rumor mills have been overflowing with speculation about what, and who the once hush -hush, Taylor Sheridan “Yellowstone” spinoff might be about and who might be in it. Yesterday, MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios made an official announcement about the much-debated spinoff that will reside in the universe of what many consider Sheridan’s “mothership” saga.
Yes, it’s true that Sheridan has been working on a new “Yellowstone” spinoff, which will be called “The Madison,” starring Oscar-nominated veteran actress Michelle Pfeiffer. Besides taking on the starring role in the upcoming saga, described as a "heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana,” Pfeiffer will also be its executive producer.
Previously, names for this spinoff went under the titles, “6666”, and “2024.” But as of yesterday, everyone will be referring to this new show as “The Madison” officially.
"Michelle Pfeiffer is a remarkable talent who imbues every role with emotional depth, authenticity and grace," Paramount Global Co-CEO Chris McCarthy said. "She is the perfect anchor to the newest chapter of the 'Yellowstone' universe, 'The Madison,' from the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan.”
There hasn’t been any confirmation about the rumors that acting legend Kurt Russell would be in this show, although his name has been in the mix behind the scenes for several months. Also, there hasn’t been any update on whether “Suits” actor Patrick J. Adams will appear in the new series, whose name was in the mix along with Russell’s and Pfeiffer’s.
Another well-known actor that was said to be attached to a Sheridan penned spinoff was Oscar-winner and Texas native, Matthew McConaughey. McConaughey’s name was brought up last year when rumors of a “6666” spinoff of “Yellowstone” began to circulate about the same time “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner and Sheridan were said to be at odds over the schedule for the final season of the popular western drama. However, there still isn’t anything yet, linking the “Dazed and Confused” star to this current project.
What can be verified though, is Paramount had already set the wheels in motion on two more “Yellowstone” spinoffs when the end of the show was officially announced last year. There was a whisper that another prequel in the vein of “1883” and “1923” titled “1944” was in the works. There was also another rumor that Sheridan was working on a modern-day post “Yellowstone” drama set to take place after the titular series ended.
Now with Pfeiffer verified to be officially on board for “The Madison” fans will have to wait as new details about this show are revealed over time. The good news, we can all take the time to rewatch some of Pfeiffer’s best roles in films like, “Scarface,” “Criminal Minds,” “White Oleander”, and “The Remains of the Day” to name a few.
