Less than a month ago, Grammy award-winning artist, and Fort Worth native, Leon Bridges teased fans with snippets of live recordings and images of some of his new material via Instagram.
His latest album, titled “Leon,” which will be released in on October 4, leans into his upbringing in Fort Worth, with shout-outs that mention various sections of the city.
“On Rosedale my father said go straight home or I’d catch hell,” Bridges sings live on his Instagram page. A quick swipe over and fans can see Bridges posing in front of the historic Sinclair Gas Station at 3725 McCart Avenue in the Rosemont neighborhood of town during a video shoot.
This new offering, which will be his fourth full-length album since the release of “Gold-Diggers Sound” in 2021, is being described as “A love letter to Fort Worth,” in Bridges' own words.
“Had to go to Mexico to figure out the statement,” he wrote on his Instagram page. “After the last few years, I wanted the music and songwriting to lead. Think we’ve finally landed on somethin’ that encapsulates everything I set out to do five years ago. From the og to the present, from my upbringing to life now & everythin’ in between. From Texas to Mexico and back. I’m coming home again.”
Bridges upcoming album was recorded and produced by Ian Fitchuk (Kacey Musgraves, Maggie Rogers) at El Desierto on the outskirts of Mexico City with co-production from Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves) in Nashville. “Leon” features 13 handcrafted tracks spotlighting the artist’s signature storytelling and nostalgic sound. This new offering is his most personal body of work to date, which takes listeners through the streets he grew up on, the things he holds dearest, and the memories of the people and place that shaped him.
Now, with all of the pieces set in place for this local artist to showcase his new work, Bridges released his tour schedule this week, which kicks off in Austin, and tops out here in Fort Worth on November 15.
Besides going back to his roots to find inspiration for his music for this new album, Bridges is also going back to smaller venues, much like the places he played when his was first starting out.
“I wanted to bring the magic and connection that made this record to this tour, so I felt it was important to pick the right rooms to play,” he says. I'll be performing at intimate theaters this run with my incredible band. These are listening rooms—beautiful stages that truly showcase the music and allow me to get back to analog instrumentation.
“Plus, I’ve really missed playing guitar. I’ve got my brothers, Hermanos Gutiérrez, supporting me on tour as well. The tour starts in Austin and ends with a truly epic night in Fort Worth — aka Panther City — joined by my friend and Texas legend, Charley Crockett. Can’t wait to play this record for y’all live! Hope to see you out there.”
Concert ticket presales for the Leon Bridges: The Leon Tour start on Tuesday, August 20, with tickets going on sale to the public on Friday, August 23, at 10 a.m. One dollar from every ticket sold will go directly to his charity, The Big Good.
