The salty air and dreamy blue hues of a Malibu beach served as the inspirations behind Sun Coast, a national skincare brand created by Fort Worthian Hollie Palmer.
Most people get cards, cake, and well-wishes for their birthdays, but, for her 50th, Palmer acquired a whole skincare brand.
The brand includes five salt scrub scents that are essential oil-based and used to exfoliate and reduce stress. After testing for about a year, and a company rebrand, the product is now available in local spas and Dillard’s and will hit shelves soon at Belk and possibly Nordstrom.
“I think in the beginning, I was very fearful,” Palmer admits. “It's been fun and learning to have confidence in what I feel and just go with it. It's okay to make changes at 50. Having this vision play out has been super exciting, and even letting my kids see the process.”
Even though it caters to all ages, Palmer had women her age in mind when creating the brand.

“A long time ago, I heard supermodel, Christie Brinkley, talk about how she exfoliated her skin, and I kind of just remembered that, and put that in a memory bank,” Palmer says. “If that's going to help you look like that when you're 70, then I’ll do that. You don't have to be 50 to use the product because it's made for people who self-tan, and you can use it in the shower. My daughters use it, who are 8 and 10, and my mom who uses it, who is 78.”
Growing up in Fort Worth, Palmer was raised in the oil and gas industry. She did manage to spend a short time as a child in California, where she fell in love with Malibu. Given that this short stint is what ultimately inspired her skincare brand, all is forgiven. Now, she hopes that she can leave this business behind for her children or, at the very least, inspire her children to follow their passions.
“I'm excited about having a company that I'm a CEO and visionary of,” Palmer says. “I want it to be successful, and I believe in it. I've seen the improvements in my skin, and I want other people to feel good about themselves. I want other people who are aging to feel comfortable in a tank top or shorts. That is a thing with women when you get older. You don't feel as comfortable. I've seen a difference in myself, and having more confidence with my body and skin motivates me to help others feel that way.”
