Lynyrd Skynyrd's farewell tour was put on pause last year due to COVID-19, but as the world begins to open again, the legendary rock band is back on the road — and making a stop at the World's Largest Honky Tonk.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is scheduled to play Billy Bob's on June 18 – 19 as part of the Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour, produced by Live Nation. This is the first time the band has ever played Billy Bob's, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Original member and guitarist Gary Rossington will be joined by Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke, Mark “Sparky” Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Keith Christopher, Peter Keys, Dale Krantz Rossington, and Carol Chase.
"You know, we were in the last part of the Farewell Tour when COVID turned our world upside down. And since that time, we have been talking amongst the band and realized that music has such a way of healing," Rossington said in a news release. "Maybe it’s not our time to go? And maybe it’s our time to lift people’s spirits and lives and bring back some joy and happiness after so much turmoil this past year. This country and the world have been through a lot this past year with COVID. We’re still standing, still keeping the music going. We want to do the guys who aren’t with us anymore proud and keep the name proud, too.”
Of course, we're all familiar with the big hits — the RIAA Platinum-certified “Sweet Home Alabama," "Free Bird," "Simple Man" and other songs that have etched themselves into American rock music history. In a career that's spanned more than 40 years, Lynyrd Skynyrd has recorded more than 60 albums with more than 30 million units sold.
