What a long, wonderful, cool and rainy summer we enjoyed here in Fort Worth! As the summer comes to an end and we all start back into a good old school routine, here's a pictorial recap of how we celebrated our summer.
Jason doing his annual repairing of potholes with bags of asphalt from Lowe's. Yes, we live on the WORST street in Fort Worth and the city WON'T DO ANYTHING about it because it's a private road. Sooo lucky to have such a handy do-it-yourself husband!
Right after the Texas and Oklahoma tornados, our family decided to do a LemonAid stand at the lake house. Drinking wine while cutting citrus fruits for 3 hours equals one drunk mama, and a disgruntled husband who had to entertain the kiddos.
Boaters and Sea-Dooer's would pull up along side our floating house to pick out treats and juices. People generously gave twenty dollar bills left and right. The boys raised a little under $100 and we matched it. We gave the money to our church, Christ Chapel, who had a disaster relief fund already set up! 100% of the money went to the victims.
In June, we drove South for a week long stay in and around San Antonio. Our first stop, besides Schlitter Baun? Only the place a mom with two boys would love...THE SNAKE FARM! This place has become a family tradition. Every snake you can imagine is here, and then some. Although a little on the podunky side, it's quite a neat place.
Not only do they have every snake you can imagine, including the top 10 venomous species in the world, but they also have a petting zoo. These animals are aggressive when food is around, and they really liked chewing on our clothes too.
And of course, as soon as we arrived at the hotel, there was another pet show. By the time we got to our room, we smelled like a real zoo!
We made a trip to SeaWorld on a day that was expecting a chance of thunderstorms. In my brilliant little head of mine, I thought this was a great idea cause the park would be less crowded. All was going as planned, but by the time we got to Shamu for lunch and the show it was raining cats and dogs! And I'm not talking about any little shower, it was STORMING. Bolts of lightening and crashes of thunder kept us trapped in the Shamu arena for 2 1/2 hours. No gold star for me.
Did I mention the show was canceled? Too dangerous for the animals. So the whales cruised around in circles the whole time. I got this lucky shot on one of the few times they jumped out of the water.
This summer we celebrated 2 birthdays! Jason turned 46 in June, and Reed turned 5 in July!
Oh yah! I almost crapped myself when Winn found this wild tarantula in our yard. After our awesome reading tutor told us her boys used to catch them all they time when they were younger, I O.K.'d the idea of having a pet spider. Except it wouldn't eat and it was losing hair, so we had to let it go. Stressed out spiders are not my idea of fun!
We spent a few weekends at the lake this summer, but not nearly as much as we had hoped. Note to self: when the lake calendar gets emailed to all family members, jump on it and claim your dates...don't wait until school's out and summer has started.
We bumped around.
I'm still going through withdrawal from not driving this car anymore. PTSS. Do they make a prescription for this?
In early August we planned one more last minute getaway with the family. We headed to Cancun for some fun in the sun.
The hotel we stayed in had a wonderful sea turtle program, and every night we would head down to the beach to let the baby turtles go to the ocean.
We visited an eco park and went swimming with dolphins, sting rays and sharks.
We even floated along an underground river that meandered around the park.
And now with school back in session and summer coming to a close...I'm still trying to figure out my heritage and how I became who I am today with parents like this! Hope you all have had an amazing summer. And as always, I LOVE reading your comments. Let me know how YOUR summer went! Have a great weekend!
