National Day of the American Cowboy
National Day of the American Cowboy
Few places are as primed to celebrate the National Day of the American Cowboy as the Fort Worth Stockyards, which, this Saturday, will play host to a plethora of events honoring the symbol of the American West.
This year’s observation — the Stockyards’ 15th — includes a long lineup of activities and family-friendly events, including live music, a rodeo, a barbecue rib eating contest, mustache contest, fiddle contest, face painting, and glitter tattoos. Heck, there’s even gonna be a stick horse race for the kiddos. And for those of you whose idea of fun comes with a little education, attendees will also have an opportunity to learn about the history and heritage of the American cowboy.
For those most interested in the rib-eating contest (why wouldn't you be?), the show takes place at 11 a.m. at Riscky's BAR-B-Q at 140 East Exchange Ave. So don't fill up on pancakes in the morning.
If you’d like to attend the rodeo, which will include bull riding, calf roping, and bronco bucking, you’ll have to purchase tickets in advance.
All the festivities begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and will conclude at 8 p.m.. For more information, be sure to check out the official Stockyards website, fortworthstockyards.org
