The Post at River East
A Facebook post pushed out last week is the latest in a slew of venue closure announcements that have covered Cowtown for a little over a month. This social media blurb verified that The Post at River East would be closing its doors at 2925 Race Street on February 29, for good. The significance of this date signals the end of this music venue, bar and restaurant’s tenure amidst what many locals are chalking up to a sign of the times in terms of venue closures.
The post states: “We have reached the end of our lease and have decided not to renew. We are actively looking for a new location to reopen in.”
This announcement comes a month after the shuttering of three other live venues that include Lola’s, Twilite Motor Lounge, and the Isis Theater. The irony is, that these three venues went out within three days of each other leaving many Fort Worth music fans in a state of shock. However, none of these venues left their final announcements with the glimmer of hope The Post did. If the team from The Post are actively looking for a new spot to reopen at, then Fort Worthians may still be able to enjoy what this venue had to offer in a different setting.

But it will never be the same.
Especially, since The Post occupies a location with strong ties to the history of Fort Worth. Around 1946, the Sylvania Station Post Office moved to what was a predominantly residential neighborhood on Race Street. In 1968, the Post Office relocated again to Retta Street making way for a medical device company to occupy the building. Over the years, this historical locale has been used as a pop-up event space and venue, which would eventually be turned into The Post in 2019.
Upon this venue’s opening, patrons had the option of hanging out in the Trinity Room filled with communal tables or the outdoor ambiance of The Post’s courtyard, equipped with a live stage for musical performances. The Post is currently being run by general manager Shannon Harris, entertainment manager D. Brooks Kendall, and production manager Rodney Parker. This team’s combined experience includes operating The Live Oak and Fort Worth Live, as well as booking talent for many Fort Worth venues.
Now, on the cusp of what would’ve been its sixth year in operation, current staff members at The Post are looking at alternative options to keep things going after the dust settles on this recent announcement. In fact, The Post’s talent-buying production partner, Afallon Productions, will continue to operate, presenting shows in other local venues like Fort Brewery, The Cicada, and Southside Preservation Hall, as well as producing other music-oriented events, according to a Facebook post.
For now, The Post will remain open during its normal business hours until February 5. Beginning February 6, this venue will only be open on the nights it has a show scheduled. This also includes the termination of any and all food service until the doors shut for good at the end of February. The last show at The Post is scheduled for the venue’s last night on February 29, with Arenda Light and The Grae set to take the stage.
Any shows scheduled after this date that were originally on The Posts’ lineup calendar are being moved to other venues. Stay tuned for updates. If you already have tickets to any of the upcoming shows that were scheduled at The Post, past February, you will receive an email from Tixr regarding the venue change.
“It has been a wonderful five years on Race Street, and we are so happy to have been able to do it,” the Facebook post continues. “We thank everyone who has been a part of this experience.”
