It's been a long 14 months for fans of Roy Pope Grocery, the West Side's storied institution that nearly closed for good until a quartet of restaurant veterans and developers decided to purchase the place and give it a much-needed resuscitation.
Now, renovations are nearly complete, products are beginning to arrive, and an early May opening is on tap for the revamped Roy Pope Grocery.
The 7,500-square-foot space features a notably brighter, contemporary design. Roy Pope's signature forest green makes a return on the store's coffee and wine bar, while shelves sport a lighter, sea green-esque hue. Outside, construction is wrapping up on a covered patio that will offer additional seating for the café inside.
Stocking has also begun. According to Chris Reale — who now owns Roy Pope alongside partners Lou Lambert, Rodger Chieffalo, and Mark Harris — the majority of products will come from Texas, with a few national brands like Horizon and Kashi mixed in. Locals will also recognize Fort Worth-based brands like Mrs. Renfro's Salsa, Best Maid Pickles, Blended Family Foods, Crunchy Girl Granola, and Icon Bread lining store shelves.
