JD's Hamburgers
Gigi Howell
We got what sounds like a pretty good burger joint opening on the West Side … like the most outer reaches of the West Side.
And it will include a taste of Martin House Brewing.
Gigi Howell, a friendly and familiar fixture of the Fort Worth restaurant hospitality scene, will open JD’s Hamburgers at 9901 Camp Bowie West with an expected opening in early spring. The restaurant is a tribute to her grandfather, JD Jimeson.
It is also an homage to the Westland community.
Westland?
Way down Camp Bowie West past Loop 820 there once was a tight-knit community called Westland. People gathered with leisurely cups of coffee for hours in the community “clubhouse,” and men always tipped their hats. Kids played on neighborhood streets and were parented by whichever adult happened to be in the front yard. Small businesses were affectionately called by the owner’s first name.
Like most folks around Westland, JD Jimeson, a long-haul trucker, worked hard every day to provide for his family, including his granddaughter.
Howell is partnering with investor and longtime friend Bourke Harvey, along with Joanna and Brendan Bennett, and Holman Harvey.
"My friend and partner Bourke Harvey and I have been dreaming for years and this time, it all seemed perfect," Howell says from her Facebook platform. "Things have fallen into place and we can't wait to make you feel right at home."
The restaurant’s menu, according to a news release announcing the restaurant’s opening, will feature a classic cheeseburger along with specialty burgers, as well as appetizers and desserts Gigi Howell grew up making with various family members, such as salmon patties, deviled eggs, fried apricot pies, and banana pudding.
Martin House Brewing Company will create the “Westland Rattler” on draft to honor a snake that was found in the building prior to construction, and a full bar will be available with specialty cocktails. DeCoty Coffee will provide the fresh-roasted “A Taste of Westland” coffee blend. The 2,000-square-foot building will have limited indoor seating, with picnic tables and a stage for live music in the large backyard. Because of the building’s limited size, the restaurant’s kitchen is being built in an exterior shipping container and will be delivered with all appliances intact.
We can’t wait to see that. They have promised us pictures.
The architect is Jason Yott, and the general contractor is Bo Jimeson.
