The Clamato Michelada Festival features food, live music, and a competition over who can make the best version of the signature Mexican drink.
In the mood for a michelada? A whole festival dedicated to the signature Mexican drink is happening downtown this Sunday.
The sixth annual Clamato Michelada Festival will take place at General Worth Square from noon to 8 p.m., featuring food, live music, and a competition over who can make the best michelada using Clamato juice, with contestants coming from all over Texas. The beer-based drink can come topped with everything from cocktail shrimp to Tajin-covered fruit and vegetables; and for non-drinkers, there's a non-alcoholic variation made with mineral water.
Live performers include Grupo Mesteño, Banda Vientos de Guanajuato, Eskuela de las Calles, Puro Fort Worth, and thanks to the Fort Worth Opera, Mariachi group Trio Chapultepec. The festival will also feature Suenatron, a band that includes brothers Mexia and Giovanni Hernández, sons of Los Tigres del Norte's Hernán Hernández.
Admission is free — though, of course, you'd want to bring your wallet to make purchases from individual vendors. According to the festival, which is hosted by nonprofit Connect Respect, 100% of the food and retail vendors are small businesses, and a portion of event proceeds go toward a scholarship program for Fort Worth Independent School District graduates attending Texas Wesleyan University.
