A local restaurant that offers authentic upscale Northeast Mexican food was just named a finalist in the Best New Restaurant category for the 2023 James Beard Awards. Don Artemio, located at 3268 West 7th Street, is one of ten restaurants nationally to make the list of finalists for Best New Restaurant.
This category consists of restaurants that opened between January 1 through September 30, 2022. According to a release, these establishments have already demonstrated excellence in cuisine, atmosphere, hospitality, and operations while contributing positively to their broader community and seem likely to make a significant impact in years to come
Other categories announced include Restaurant and Chef Award nominees, Leadership Award winners, and Humanitarian of the Year and Lifetime Achievement honorees. These announcements come as a precursor to the James Beard Awards ceremonies in June, presented by Capital One.
The nominees were announced on March 29 during a live ceremony at the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum in Nashville, TN. Clare Reichenbach, CEO of the James Beard Foundation, who co-hosted the event, says she is excited to celebrate all those pushing American food culture forward at this year’s awards.
“The James Beard Awards celebrate outstanding achievement and exceptional culinary talent, as well as all those doing incredible work on behalf of our communities and wider food system. This year’s nominees, winners, and honorees are inspiring exemplars of that,” says Reichenbach. “We congratulate all those recognized today and look forward to celebrating them at another exciting awards weekend in Chicago this June.”
