In 1938 on the front lines of World War II, a group of women from The Salvation Army provided sweet essential goods to boost morale. Years later, they are credited with popularizing what is now National Donut Day.
National Donut Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday in June. In celebration of the holiday, The Salvation Army of North Texas celebrates across the region by delivering donuts to veterans, first responders, and city officials. The Salvation Army continues to serve on the front lines, providing social services for North Texas’ most vulnerable individuals and families.

“This National Donut Day, as the country celebrates with a sweet treat, we are proud to remember that this tradition started with our own volunteers more than a hundred years ago,” area commander of The Salvation Army of North Texas, Major Todd Hawks, says. “For us, the donut symbolizes the hope that The Salvation Army provides to those in need.”
The Salvation Army’s locations in Fort Worth distributed donuts to staff and clients on Friday. In Denton and Lewisville, The Salvation Army delivered donuts to first responders, veterans, and city officials.
We compiled a best-of donuts list in Fort Worth a few years ago. A hole-some whistle to our fallen donut places, Kneady Donuts and Jessie’s. May they rest in glaze.
