The folks at HopFusion Ale Works hope to save you time and hassle in party prep, an effort that’s helping the environment too.
HopFusion offers disposable 20-liter kegs (676 fluid ounces), made from 100 percent recyclable material. Launched in early June, the one-use kegs are standard American Sankey fittings. There are no keg deposits or keg returns, and HopFusion staff says the brewery is the only one in the Metroplex to offer a disposable keg.
“While it does have some eco-friendly advantages over its stainless steel cousin, the primary motivation really is to save hassle and potentially money for the customer since we don’t need to secure a keg deposit or require them to bring it back,” says Macy Moore, co-owner of HopFusion Ale Works.
On Sept. 1, several new rules for alcohol sales in the state of Texas go into effect. One of these rules is craft breweries will be allowed to sell the equivalent of one 24-pack of beer (288 fluid ounces) per customer per day to go. HopFusion has a brew-pub license instead of a production brewery license, which doesn't put a cap on how much beer consumers can buy to-go from the brewery. As a result, HopFusion isn't required to keep track of how much beer was sold to-go to each customer per day.
"We wanted the freedom to sell beer to-go without quantity restraints,” Moore says.
The process of getting one of these kegs is in line with casual visits as well. Guests can grab a pint, order something to-go, hang out and pay for it all on one tab. The to-go order is held in a special cold room until your ready to go.
HopFusion, 200 E. Broadway in the Near Southside of Fort Worth, has doors open six days a week. Taproom brews include annual releases and limited releases for about 15 to 20 beers on tap.
