There’s nothing quite like the smell of freshly prepared Southern style food on a Sunday morning. After all, having family over for a meal on the first day of the week is a rich North Texas tradition that is still going strong.
That’s why, as of November 17, the Fort Worth Food + Wine Foundation is hosting its take on this long-held Sunday convention at The Gospel Brunch, a new event that will showcase the talent of local and regional chefs.
Taking place at The Shack at Panther Island on November 17, (11 a.m.—2:30 p.m.), The Gospel Brunch is a new multi-course dining experience that will showcase the talents of five renowned local chefs.
The Gospel Brunch will feature dishes from Marcus Paslay (From Scratch Hospitality), Katrina Carpenter (Carpenter Cafe & Catering), and Reggie and Cedric Robinson (Lil’ Boy Blue BBQ). Also, scheduled to be in attendance is chef David Bull, executive chef of Second Bar + Kitchen in Mineral Wells, who also happens to be a three-time James Beard nominee.
Bull, who is best known for his twist on popular American dishes with the use of seasonal ingredients, will be creating his plates alongside these local chefs for the first time ever.
“This lineup aligns with the Foundation's aim to match local talent with acclaimed regional and national culinary experts,” a release states.
Combining signature styles to create a singular culinary experience is exactly what the FWFWF is all about. This first-ever event will pair a combination of fantastic flavors, expertise, and vision that will never be repeated again.

"We're thrilled to introduceThe Gospel Brunch as a new addition to our fall lineup. This event brings together celebrated chefs who represent the heart of Southern hospitality and culinary creativity,” Julie Eastman, executive director of the Fort Worth Food + Wine Foundation said in a statement. "It's a chance for the community to come together, share a meal, and experience the warmth of Fort Worth's food scene in a setting that's relaxed, welcoming, and full of flavor."
And just like the communal meals of yester-year, The Gospel Brunch will be set up with family-style seating inside of Panther Island Pavilion. This open-air setting will add to the ambiance of the live gospel music playing, in a relaxed atmosphere alongside the Trinity River, well into the late afternoon.
The Gospel Brunch itself is one of three special events being hosted this fall by the FWFWF, which also includes Fête of Four Seasons and the Night Market.
“The inspiration for The Gospel Brunch came from the desire to create an event that not only celebrates the rich traditions of Southern cuisine but also fosters a sense of community,” Eastman continued. “The combination of family-style dining, soulful gospel music, and talented chefs is a perfect reflection of our mission to bring people together through food all while supporting our local culinary talent.”
