Kahunas
Find Hawaiian-style poke dishes, ramen, and boba tea at Kahunas.
North Richland Hills is now home to a new spot serving Hawaiian-style poke dishes, ramen, and boba tea.
Kahunas opened in January at 8509 Davis Blvd., suite 180, near the intersection of Tarrant Parkway. The owners are Joe and Matt Ewasik, a father and son team. Joe Ewasik is an American Airlines pilot with 35 years of experience, serial entrepreneur, and Air Force veteran. Matt is the former owner of WSM Tactical (a gun shop in North Texas) and both owners are longtime foodies.
Joe and Matt fell in love with poke while vacationing in Hawaii, and upon returning home, they searched for a local place to get their poke fix, but the options in DFW were lacking. Kahunas is a fast-casual restaurant. Customers order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table.
Decorated with white-washed wood, white subway tile, and pops of blue tile, Kahunas amps up the surf style with surfboards on the walls and two palm trees to give the space a beachside feel, complete with seating for 74 people.
They have fun starters like poke nachos, kimchi fries, and traditional takoyaki (fried octopus fritters). They serve a variety of signature poke bowls and even hot ramen bowls.
The Ewasiks pride themselves on ethically and sustainably sourced produce and fish. “Our fish comes from fish farms in Norway that have better environmental and farming practices than the US, and are also not depleting the oceanic population,” Matt Ewasik says.
Kahunas is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
