Chuy's Tex Mex has opened a location in Hudson Oaks.
Taste Project, the non-profit, pay-what-you-can restaurant in the Near Southside, will host a chef’s dinner this month on Sept. 6 to help raise funds for its second location, which, fingers crossed, should be open by the end of the year, says co-owner Julie Williams. The dinner will be hosted by globetrotting chef Mouhssine “Moose” Benhamacht, whose five-course meal sounds incredible. Dishes will include salmon tartar; roasted carrots with pecan gremolata and goat cheese; duck leg confit with ginger and poached plums; braised short rib with a Cabernet Franc glaze; and for dessert, green tea and white chocolate tiramisu. A native of Teflit, Morocco, Benhamacht cooked in kitchens across the country, from California to Atlanta, before he landed in Arlington, where he oversaw the opening of the excellent Farena at the new Loews Arlington Hotel and Convention Center next to Globe Life Field. He now serves as co-owner and executive chef at Cafe Americana, an exciting new restaurant in Arlington that specializes in Spanish cuisine. From the anxious-to-try department: A new Indian restaurant has opened in the Wedgwood area called Texas Indian Kabab and Grill. The tiny indie restaurant offers sort of a greatest hits of Indian fare, with dishes such as lamb, shrimp or goat biryani, assorted samosas and pakoras, and various curry dishes. It’s at 5054 Trail Lake Dr. https://texasindiankababandgrill.com

La Cabrona, the new and very long-awaited Mexican restaurant in the West 7th area, will finally open this month in the space originally occupied by Tillman’s Roadhouse. Might want to take the “this month” part with a grain of salt. When it comes to predicting restaurant opening dates lately, I’m only batting about .230. La Cabrona is a family-owned spot whose kitchen will be led by Rosario Ortega, a chef from Monterrey, Mexico. His menu will include Mexican/Tex Mex staples such as quesadillas, tacos, and enchiladas, along with some nice surprises like marinated and grilled octopus served with cambray potatoes. According to CultureMap, weekend brunch service will include a visit from a roaming elote cart - a cool little touch. https://www.lacabrona.com

Now that the original Pulido’s is back up and running, new owners Gigi Howell and her Westland Restaurant Group have turned their attention toward reopening the Pulido’s in Hurst. Work began recently and should be completed in the next month or so, Howell says. Like with the original Pulido’s location, there won’t be a major overhaul, just a few nip/tucks here and there to gently jazz it up a bit. “We will have a nice bar and a larger seating area,” she says. Look for it this fall. pulidostx.com
