A new cocktail lounge is adding to The Foundry District’s burgeoning boozy atmosphere.
Tulane’s aims to serve a sip of nostalgic NOLA spirit. The new spot joins Blackland Distilling, the soon-to-open Maple Branch Craft Brewing and Thirty Eight and Vine wine bar, which is opening just before Christmas. Co-owner Amanda Jones says the team is working “diligently to swing our doors open by January!”
She and Daniel Zapata are currently in the throes of construction at 2708 Weisenberger St. The owners bring with them a wealth of knowledge in the food and beverage industry. For instance, Jones’ family owns Houston Street Bar and Patio downtown. The duo is excited to plant their flag in The Foundry District as budding entrepreneurs.
Tulane's is designed with a New Orleans vibe and will feature signature infused cocktails. They will offer pizza by the slice, as well as a seasonal menu throughout the year that’s more in line with New Orleans favorites.
“We do not have an affiliation with Tulane University, but wanted to capture the familiarity with NOLA,” Jones says of the name. “Our beverage program will focus on barrel-aging and infusions while still offering a full bar experience.”
Jones calls New Orleans “the Las Vegas of the South,” and says they have always been attracted by both the city’s character and culture. “Every time we visit, our experience involves a good time, tasteful drinks and delicious food. The city is full of hidden gems, and we are hoping to bring the same thing here,” Jones says.
Hours will be from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily when Tulane’s opens in early 2020.
