With this crazy Texas heat, it's so easy to give up on gardening for a few months and just wait for those cooler Fall months. I will be the first to admit I don't have the greenest of thumbs. In fact, it's hard to find a plant I can actually keep alive, especially in the Summer! Thankfully I recently discovered succulent plants and have loved their ease and beauty ever since. Succulents are what most people would consider a desert plant, so our intense summer heat is no battle for these guys. They can bare the heat and remain bright, colorful and uniquely beautiful. They also don't require a ton of water which is another advantage. I tend to forget to water my plants, so I love the fact that I can go a week without watering and my plants are just fine.

As you can see, I mixed in a few cacti with my succulents to mix it up a bit. Cacti are also a desert plant (duh) and they also don't require a ton of watering. They do really well in heat which makes them a perfect match for my succulent garden. I wanted a mix of texture and color, and this combination really accomplishes that in my opinion.
