Fort Worth's historic early 1920s Coca-Cola bottling plant has been transformed into luxury apartments. Dallas-based KWA Construction, the same team behind numerous Dallas townhouse, condo and apartment projects, completed construction at 650 South Main St. in April. Named HIGHPOINT Urban Living, the 227-unit development will bring more leasing options to the Medical District and the Near Southside. The apartments sit across West Cannon Street from the Rahr Brewery, in a still up-and-coming part of the southside area near Cannon Chinese Kitchen and Pouring Glory.
"While the restoration was not without its challenges, we were able to preserve many original features of this historic building while focusing on developing high-end living units for the area," KWA Construction President Brian Webster said in a press release.
N.T.S. Architects and Planners teamed with Fort Worth-based Oxley Williams Tharp Architects to design the 400,000-square-foot project. The team maintained historic details like the original exterior brick, reclaimed wood beams along open ceilings and stained concrete flooring.
The site has many nods to the building's history with etched glass and Coca-Cola artwork along the walls of common areas. The project is one of many moves in the city's revitalization efforts of the nearly 1,400-acre area just south of downtown. Units range in size from 631-square-foot one-bedrooms to 1,257-square-foot two-bedrooms.
