Fort Worth dignitaries, including the council, mayor, and city manager, and two former mayors break ground on construction to new City Hall.
City Council members, two former mayors, City Manager David Cooke, and other dignitaries got their hands a little dirty on Thursday morning taking a shovel to dirt in the ceremonial groundbreaking on the site of the future City Hall at the former Pier 1 headquarters building.
Former mayors Mike Moncrief and Kenneth Barr joined current Mayor Mattie Parker and her council colleagues dipping a shovel into a mound of prepared dirt to mark the formal beginning of construction.
Site enhancements at the building at 100 Energy Way, will include a new City Council Chamber facility, which will be home to future Council meetings and a number of boards and commissions. In all, 22 departments, including development and permitting activities, from 14 other sites will be brought to the site.
City officials announced the purchase of the 410,000-square foot Class A high rise for $69.5 million in December 2020.
Completion of the project is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.
