The streets of Fort Worth have officially become a Hollywood studio backlot, as the new Paramount+ series, “1883,” began filming yesterday.
The new series will serve as a prequel to the Taylor Sheridan-penned show “Yellowstone.” Sheridan, who hails from nearby Cranfills Gap in Bosque County, is also slated to direct the pilot episode.
With filming underway, local star-seekers might be able to catch a glimpse of Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May, or LaMonica Garrett — all of whom make up the show’s ensemble cast.
For those familiar with “Yellowstone” — currently the highest-rated series on cable television — you may already know the Duttons, a fictitious Montana family that controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the U.S. “1883” will take the viewer back multiple generations to tell the family’s origin story, which includes the family abruptly leaving Texas aboard a wagon train caravan for Montana. No, we’re not sure why anyone would ever want to leave Texas, but we’re confident the show will give the Duttons a solid reason.
As reported yesterday by the Star Telegram, the city authorized temporary road closures from Sept. 1 – 17 in the Stockyards to allow for filming. Streetlights will be removed and dirt will be brought in as the area will transform into the year 1883. Passersby can already check out some of the set construction that’s currently taking place on West Exchange Avenue.
