Ever wonder what the food in the famous Dr. Suess universe tastes like in real life? Well, that is exactly what local baker Tareka Lofton will try and create in Prime Video's new Dr. Suess Baking Challenge starting on December 13.
Lofton, along with 18 other bakers in nine teams, will all compete for a $50,000 grand prize by creating Dr. Suess style confections in a studio in Culver City, California.
The show will be hosted by Emmy award-winner Tamera Mowry-Housley and each challenge will be judged by baking stars Clarice Lam and Joshua John Russell.
Lofton will be teamed up with pastry chef Lorenz Delgado from North Carolina, who will make up the yellow team. Each team is expected to make extravagant cakes, cookies, and pastries based on Dr. Suess’s characters and stories.
Lofton told KERA news, that being on the show was a perfect fit: "I'm very creative, I've always kinda been that fun, whimsical, out-of-the-box thinker," she says. "So, this show was just a serendipity moment in my life that I was definitely meant to be a part of. I felt right at home in the world of Seuss."
Lofton says the show was an exciting experience, and she loved learning things from fellow contestants. "I just knew that this was really going to be a challenge in a good way, just because [there] was so much talent that I knew it was going to force me and push me, and it really did just kind of catapult me to the next level, she says.
Inspired, by Oh, the Places You’ll Go!, Lofton took the risk of quitting her job at age 30 to go to culinary school to follow her dream of being a baker. Almost a decade later, she has built a successful business at Loft22 Cakes in Fort Worth, which specializes in “large, gravity-defying cakes.”
According to Tareka, her father taught her to be fearless and dream big, so by competing in the City of Seuss, she is honoring his legacy.
The teams will be judged on the taste, creativity, accuracy and storytelling of each baked item or items they are challenged with, which will make this show binge worthy for sure.
All eight episodes will premiere on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee in more than 240 countries.
