TV series Yellowstone and TV remote controler. TV show Yellowstone is made by Paramount Network
A Deadline report indicates that “Yellowstone” creator, Taylor Sheridan, Paramount Global and the Paramount Network will be ending this signature series in its current form. But have no fear, there are talks of a potential franchise extension in the form of a new show that could include Oscar winner and Texas native Matthew McConaughey.
Deadline reports, that it is unclear which of the “Yellowstone” cast members will move over to the McConaughey-led series, but it is expected to include several of its big stars.
This news comes in light of recent rumors that Yellowstone star Kevin Costner may be leaving the popular series due to scheduling conflicts. Industry sources tell Deadline that Costner, who had originally limited himself to 65 days of shooting on Yellowstone, only wanted to shoot for 50 days for the first part of the current season. According to Deadline, Costner only wanted to spend a week shooting for the second batch of episodes of the current, fifth season.
This scheduling snafu is said to be a source of frustration for Sheridan, since Costner plays John Dutton a key role and the patriarch of the Dutton clan. Furthermore, it is reported that this has also caused a morale issue with the other stars of the show, which includes Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille and Gil Birmingham.
A Paramount spokesperson told the Hollywood press in a statement that they have no news to report about Costner at the moment.
"Kevin Costner is a big part of ‘Yellowstone’ and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come,” a Paramount Network spokesperson told Deadline. “Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”
Deadline reports that Paramount Network has declined Costner’s most recent proposal and instead has made the decision to move on to his multi-part western epic “Horizon”, which Costner is directing and starring in.
Sheridan will write with McConaughey as the star of the western series extension, Deadline reports. It isn’t clear at present whether the McConaughey-fronted franchise extension will be set on the Dutton ranch in Montana or elsewhere.
