It’s a classic New Year’s resolution for countless individuals: Be more active in the new year. Often, fulfilling that goal becomes a task in and of itself with gyms packed in early weeks of the year.
Fort Worthians can get a good jump on staying active outside the weight room in a partnership between Fort Worth Bike Sharing and Blue Zones Project. They’re offering free bike rentals (BCycles) on the first Friday of every month, beginning this Friday.
The “Free First Fri-Yay!” program, a well-being improvement initiative led by Texas Health Resources, starts this Friday at Gateway Park – at Fort Worth Bike Sharing’s newest bike station– in a kickoff event featuring a leisurely five-mile ride, with the option of a shorter, two-mile ride.
Fort Worth Bike Share will lead the ride and Blue Zones Project will have activities for folks of all ages. “The kick-off event encourages natural movement, social interaction, family time—all Blue Zones Project principles known for improving well-being,” a press release announcing the program reads.
The first free ride of the year gets rolling from 2 to 4 p.m. this Friday, weather permitting, at Gateway Park East Trailhead, 5400 E. 1st St. Check the Blue Zones Project Fort Worth and Fort Worth Bike Sharing Facebook pages before heading out.
