Splinter's Axes & Ales
So, axe-throwing while drinking beer is a thing. And this month, Fort Worth is welcoming two places where folks can do that — Stumpy's Hatchet House, which opened Friday, and not too far from it, Splinter's Axes & Ales.
The husband-and-wife team of Brian and Jonette Phegley opened Splinter's on Oct. 16 inside a former warehouse in the District 90 development at Eighth Avenue and Berry Street near TCU and the Near Southside.
“We loved the axe-throwing experience, but wanted to offer a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere — complete with sofas, a beautiful bar, and plenty of space,” Brian Phegley says.
The Splinter’s beer selection features 10 on tap, including imported, domestic, and local beers.
Splinter’s is at 1813 W. Bowie St., inside the emerging District 90, the redevelopment of four former industrial buildings designed for new businesses such as restaurants and bars, health and fitness studios, creative office, and service and experiential retail.
The area around District 90 on the eastern end of TCU’s Berry Street corridor — and just south of revitalized neighborhoods like Fairmount and Ryan Place — is filling in with new apartments, townhomes, restaurants, and art and event spaces.
District 90, developed by Dak Hatfield of Hatfield Advisors and Andrew Blake of Presidio Interests, has two spaces with patios available for restaurants and bars. Next to Splinter’s, the developers said they’re in discussions with operators of health and fitness studios, retailers, and creative office users.
The redeveloped warehouse spaces include amenities such as glass roll-up doors, skylights, and high ceilings.
Fort Worth’s 97W architects designed the redevelopment, and Redenta’s Landscape Design was landscape architect.
