Do you like working with animals and learning about history? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then you could be eligible to join the Fort Worth Herd. This team of drovers have been in charge of re-enacting two cattle drives a day through the historic Stockyards since 1999. Now you have a chance to be part of this unique team. Those who qualify have a chance to become an ambassador for the livestock industry and what many consider the cornerstone of the American West.
Full-time and part-time positions are available with starting pay up to $20 per hour. A three-month hiring bonus based on performance is also available for qualified applicants. Horsemanship skills are preferred but not necessary, plus the Herd provides training, clothing, horses, and tack. All applicants must be 18 or older.
“This is an opportunity to represent the history and culture of the American Cowboy,” says Kristin Jaworski, trail boss for the Fort Worth Herd. “The Fort Worth Herd prides itself on being authentic and historically true while celebrating the city’s western heritage.”
The Herd is made up of 17 Texas Longhorns, each steer representing one decade from Fort Worth’s past, which includes a diverse team of drovers in authentic 19th-century clothing.
The Fort Worth Herd Cattle drive was created as part of the city’s sesquicentennial celebration in 1999. Since then, it has occurred twice daily, at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., on East Exchange Avenue in the Fort Worth Stockyards National District.
