TCU
TCU offensive lineman Brandon Coleman
Out of the thirty-one Big 12 players selected in the 2024 National Football League Draft, three hail from TCU. The first Horned Frog to get a nod from the pros was offensive lineman Brandon Coleman, who was selected by the Washington Commanders in the third round to wear their team jersey last Friday.
Next up was TCU tight end Jared Wiley, who was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round. Following close behind Wiley was cornerback Josh Newton, who was picked in the fifth round by the Cincinnati Bengals on the final day of the draft.
Coleman, who was a Team Captain, was also a two-time All-Big 12 selection and 2023 Honorable-Mention Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year. Coleman, who played every position on the offensive line except center, made 11 starts, and totaled 32 knockdown blocks with an 87.0 average grade, according to a release.
Coleman is the second Horned Frog drafted by Washington besides Josh Doctson, who was a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Wiley, on the other hand, will be joining a former Horned Frog, Lucas Niang, on the two-time defending Kansas City Chiefs. This marks the first time a TCU tight end was drafted by an NFL team since Matt Schobel was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2002.
Newton’s draft, however, tallies four former TCU defensive backs in the NFL, which include Tre'von Moehrig, and Tre Tomlinson. Newton marks the first TCU player to be drafted by the Bengals since Paul Dawson in 2015.
Besides these three drafts, five Horned Frogs also signed free-agent contracts that include, running back Emani Bailey (Kansas City Chiefs), safety Millard Bradford (New Orleans Saints), offensive linemen Andrew Coker (Las Vegas Raiders), Willis Patrick (Los Angeles Chargers), and safety Mark Perry (Miami Dolphins).
Since TCU’s head coach Sonny Dykes has taken over in the last two seasons, TCU has had 11 players drafted to the NFL. The Horned Frogs have 31 players active in the NFL. That means 20 of the 32 teams in the NFL have at least one Horned Frog on their rosters. The Los Angeles Chargers have the most TCU players with four (Derius Davis, Max Duggan, Quentin Johnston, and Willis Patrick).
