Funkytown: 2021 in Music

Country, pop, soul, rock, rap, it's a funky mix of genres we have representing the Fort. And, in a city this diverse and downright peculiar, we wouldn't have it any other way. The Fort Worth sound reflects the town itself: eclectic and hodge-podgey, yet far from nondescript. 

While our buddy Leon Bridges gained national recognition with a new album (if Gold-Diggers Sound was not in your regular rotation, we can safely assume you've either spent most of 2021 under a boulder or have yet to upgrade your 8-track), countless other local musicians released stellar cuts of their own. Whether it was full-length albums or singles released via Spotify, it's clear the creative spark spurred on by the pandemic has yet to burn out. 

In what's becoming an annual tradition here at the magazine, we've put together a playlist of our favorite local tunes released in 2021. We recommend putting it on shuffle and playing it loud during commutes and road trips and, as always, if you have any recommendations, please let us know in the comments.
