Downtown Cowtown at the Isis
At long last, the over-a-hundred-year-old Isis Theater is finally hosting shows again.
The venue, now called Downtown Cowtown at the Isis and located at the Fort Worth Stockyards, softly opened this weekend. Shows began Friday with the TCMA Country Music Experience, showcasing up-and-coming country artists Scotty Alexander, Bailey Rae, and Matthew Shane, with Monty Dawson as emcee.
"The Voice" finalist Thunderstorm Artis took the stage on Saturday night; and on Sunday, Sundance Head (also of "The Voice" and "American Idol") is scheduled to perform.
A bigger opening celebration will take place June 4 – 5 with The Roots of Music Concert Series, which promises some of the best jazz talent from New Orleans. Leading the event is Grammy Award-winning musician Adonis Rose, artistic director of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and partner/co-founder of Funkytown Agency.
A lot of buzz has surrounded Downtown Cowtown at the Isis since couple and co-founders Jeffrey Smith and Debbie Garrett-Smith first announced they would renovate the theater in 2016. Named after the Egyptian goddess, Isis, the theater was originally built in 1914 and lived through a storied history — including a fire in 1935 — before shutting down in 1988. Renovating the theater proved to be challenge as the project faced all sorts of setbacks, from construction delays to, of course, everything associated with COVID-19 and the February snowstorms.
But now, the 500-seat venue can finally do what it was made for again, complete with a New Orleans-style bar, speakeasy, concessions, and private spaces.
Downtown Cowtown at the Isis is located at 2401 N. Main St. The full calendar and ticket information are available at downtowncowtown.com.
