As many of you know, I fell down the stairs to our basement and broke my back in 3 places and cracked a rib almost 3 weeks ago. I have not blogged since the day after my fall, nor have I really had the desire or energy either. With a sick child home from school last week, the busyness of Halloween festivities, and a setback in healing, life in general has just about tapped me out. Even though I just started driving about 5 days ago, if I spend too much time running around, it wipes me out. (If you missed the last blog on the details of the fall, click here...Fun Fact? That blog was shared on FB the most out of any blog I've ever written...almost 1000 times.)
Although at times I have felt AMAZING! MIRACULOUS! PRAYERS ANSWERED! It is still slow and painful, but it has also been a quick recovery in the big scheme of things...if that makes any since. I kind of compare it to the stock market…ups and downs throughout the week, but in general keep getting better. I only used a wheel chair for a few days and I've pretty much dropped down to just one of the pain meds prescribed…most of the time. Check out the holes in the back of the shirt I was wearing. Those are from my vertebrates busting through the fabric as I hit the treads on the stairs. I was so afraid they were going to cut this Gorsuch t-shirt off of me at the hospital, that I managed to remove it before we left the house. Yes, I went to the hospital in a bra. Anything for fashion, right?
God is sooo good. I thank him every day for letting me be able to walk and be physically there for my husband and kids. But at the same time, I was ready to accept HIS plan for me. I get very emotional when I think back to the thoughts that were racing through my head that day. Will we have to retrofit the house for a wheelchair? Could we install an elevator? Would we have to sell the house? Never in my life have I been through such a challenging mental mind screw. Right after the fall, I thanked God that I could still move my head and neck. When I got to the hospital, I thanked God that I could move my arms and legs after they gave me the muscle relaxer in my IV. When my x-rays came back…the doctor said I would heal, but it was going to hurt for a while. I just kept thanking God for every precious milestone and good news received.
Dear friends and neighbors of my parents recommended that I see someone in Dr. Brotherton's group for my injury. They pretty much take care of all the TCU athletes! I knew I was in great hands. After I visited with his PA a week after the injury, they said I would make a full recovery. I won't even need surgery, rehab or anything. What a blessing!
So soo many of you asked if you could bring food (even Rio Mambo brought dinner to us), help with the kids and run carpool for me. Some of you sent flowers and the cards that came through the mail from near and far were wonderful to read…the list was long and beautiful. I was blown away by the sheer amount of LOVE I received from everyone. I especially loved every visitor who stopped by. It was such a treat. Even my Aunt Barbara (my dad’s sister) came by the day after and offered to give me a bath and shampoo my hair. Of course this was after I told her I really wanted to shower, but couldn’t. I don’t usually have people bathe me, but I needed the help. AWKWARD to say the least, but super blessed at the same time. I couldn’t have done it without her, especially with my mom out of the country frolicking around Europe with dad.
One of my favorite gifts I received were these hand made glitter-loaded get-well cards from the children at the Cavile Branch Boys & Girls Club. My heart melted. We are sending something special to the kids in return, maybe a box filled with Rainbow Looms and other goodies for them to enjoy.
I even received a personal phone call from the Dr. Ted Kitchen's, our pastor at Christ Chapel Bible Church...a place I’ve called home since elementary school. He's practically a Mogul now and superdupercalifragilistic busy running a mega church! It was like getting a call from Heaven.

Since I've been laid up in bed for almost 3 weeks and TRYING to take it easy, I have spent many days finishing up thank you notes from last years Cancer Care event, "Joy of Life", which Jason and I chaired and my parents were the honorary chairs. Plus, never one to sit still (I've got a little more Dunaway in me, and a little less Smith), I have also been soliciting auction items from bed too! YES, thank you notes from LAST YEAR! Long story.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Cancer Care Services, it’s a non-profit organization that's very near and dear to my heart! Their annual fundraiser, "Joy of Life", (which we raised a record amount of money for last year...$335,243.00 to be exact and $100K more than the previous year) is THIS weekend...the SAME WEEKEND as Steeplechase along with a slew of other big fundraisers. Not only are we going to attend Joy of Life and dance our butts off to the Time Machine Band (well, Jason will be twerking on the dance floor...I'll just be watching), but we are also attending Steeplechase. Yup! We are doing both! Do it all, right? Why not?

We would love nothing more than to see you in person at the Omni Hotel celebrating the Joy of Life with us, along with this years Chairs, Diane Stow and Amy Yudiski. But if you can't make it, any donation amount would be wonderful! Buy tickets HERE and make donations HERE. Below are images from last years Joy of Life, and you can click here for more familiar faces and pictures from last year.
Me and Mac Churchill "Getting Jiggy With It"! He is a fantastic dancer BTW!

Me and Mama-D having a GREAT time!

Congratulatory hugs are ALWAYS fun!

Speaking to a crowd of 400+ people can be a little nerve wracking!

Can't beat a steak dinner with wine pairings for each course! (They made a special vegetarian dish for me.)

Stay tuned to THIS Thursday's Tablescape blog where I show you how to design a wonderful table for your Thanksgiving celebrations. And if you missed last months Halloween tablescape and video, click here.
