In March of 2011, Amie and David Simpson and friend Scott Brown with The Gladney Center for Adoption visited Ethiopia. During their trip, Scott introduced them to the people and ministry of Kidmia.
Needless to say, Amie and David fell in love with the Ethiopian culture and children at Kidmia. In the midst of that trip, God put it on their hearts to obey James 1:27 and do their part to help address the Ethiopian orphan crisis. This led to deeper involvement with Kidmia and a searching of their hearts as they made the decision to adopt a daughter from Ethiopia.
In the picture above, a 5-day-old infant was found abandoned near a river. Four days later, she was brought to Kidmia. Her name is "Ruhama," meaning, one who has God's mercy. Today she is healthy and well and has been adopted domestically (by Ethiopians) and is now in a forever family.
This was the reason, as of September 2011, Amie and David decided he would take on the volunteer role as Executive Director of Kidmia to oversee and multiply the organization's fundraising and marketing efforts in the United States. "For the Fatherless" Dinner was formed to help raise money to support 180 orphans and vulnerable children in the community through food/nutritional support, health care, education, clothing and psycho-social services.

It's difficult to imagine 5 million orphaned children in one country and even more painful to consider their desperation from the comfort of our home in the DFW Metroplex. Though we know making a difference for one child is a significant calling, we realize we have the ability to impact hundreds, maybe even thousands, of Ethiopian children who long for a forever home and family. We are certain there are other believing families in our community who would want to help if they were acquainted with a trusted organization working to make a difference in the midst of this heart-wrenching crisis.” - Amie and David Simpson
