Fort Worthians can kick off March with brews and live entertainment at The Wild Acre Brewing Company on El Paso Street, celebrating the birthday of the man Fort Worth is named after – General William Jenkins Worth.
The event takes place March 1-4 and will feature food, both from food trucks and catered by Heim BBQ, along with taproom exclusives and commemorative “Billy Jenkins” glassware (Wild Acre’s Billy Jenkins Session Bock is named after Worth). Patrons can also enjoy live music from notable Texas bands, including Chucho, Big Mike, Matt Teddler, Vincent Neal Emerson and the Lone Star String Band. Wild Acre is also expecting a visit from the Hardline radio show on 1310 The Ticket.
In addition, Wild Acre will release a new beer, Billy's Birthday Dopplebock, sold exclusively in the taproom.
Worth was born in Hudson, New York, on March 1, 1794. During the Mexican-American War, Worth participated in the Battle of Monterrey in 1846, led the first troops ashore in the United States amphibious landing at Veracruz in March 1847, and commanded the troops that captured Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City in September 1847. Because of his accomplishments and brief stint as commander of the newly created Department of Texas, the city of Fort Worth was named after him.
