Perhaps the event that finally signals the absolute end of the pandemic (knock on wood and keep your fingers crossed that it will last), Near Southside, Inc. announced they are bringing back ‘Friday on the Green.’
The popular, free event occurred monthly before Near Southside, Inc. understandably paused the program due to health concerns during the pandemic. The event almost re-opened last year to a hopeful Fort Worth fanbase but ultimately was canceled before securing an opening act.
Near Southside, Inc. has been teasing a special announcement the past week, releasing the news officially to their Instagram account around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Operations will resume at the Magnolia Green on Lipscomb Street, and the show’s season opener, on Sept. 16, will showcase a marquee of local artists and an on-site market, presented by Wandering Roots Markets, of over 30 vendors from 5 to 10 p.m., presented by Wandering Roots Markets. Local food and beverage will also be available, and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the lawn.
The list of this week’s performers includes:
9 p.m. Cut Throat Finches
8 p.m. Brody Price
7 p.m. Dead Vinyl
6 p.m. Brandi Waller-Pace
5 p.m. DJ Jeph Wood
Traditionally, the event is held every second Friday of the month, with the released dates this year tentatively set for Sept. 16, Sept. 30, Oct. 14, and Oct. 28.
In years past, Friday on the Green garnered thousands of attendees but managed to maintain its neighborhood-block-party appeal. A mix of quaint, family-friendly charm but with large-scale accommodation. As COVID-related restrictions continue lifting in the Fort Worth area, the re-emergence of the event is a welcome sign of things returning to a pre-pandemic normal.
