It was appropriate for the 69th edition of the Jewel Charity Ball, one of Fort Worth’s premiere charity events, to celebrate like it was, well, 1969. With flower power décor, glitter balls, and Diana Ross taking the stage, when guests strutted through the doors of the Amon G. Carter Jr. Exhibits Hall at Will Rogers Memorial Center, they were immediately transported to the summer of love.
The ball, which benefits Cook Children’s Medical Center, uses proceeds from the event to provide for the health and well-being of patients at the children’s hospital. Guests of the annual gala are made up of donors who contributed anywhere from $3,000 to $500,000+ to Jewel Charity.
The event’s four-course meal, provided by Wolfgang Puck Catering, included an appetizer of Gruyere and Emmentaler Fondue, a crisp iceberg wedge salad with radicchio and candied walnuts, a delicious beef tenderloin entrée with a horseradish crust and fresh salsa verde, and a dessert aptly called Flower Power Tart, which included honey cremeaux and lavender genoise.
After dinner, and despite being clad in formal wear, the over 2,000 attendees weren’t shy about taking to the dancefloor to cut a little rug to Motown legend Diana Ross’ biggest hits. Ross, who was a member of Billboard’s most successful girl groups of all time, The Supremes, has one of music history’s most impressive resumes, including 18 chart-topping singles — six as a solo artist.
Fort Worth Magazine was also on hand to snap some photos in its magazine-cover photo booth. If you were one of the guests who got their pic taken, you can skim through the gallery and download your photo here.
In addition to ticket sales, Jewel Charity also raises over $400,000 annually in auction and raffle ticket sales, whose prizes include luxury cars, fine jewelry, and trips abroad. To date, the Jewel Charity Ball has raised over $79 million for Cook Children’s since the charity’s inaugural gala in 1954.
