After five memorable years in the Near Southside, Main At South Side — MASS — is shutting its doors as a core music venue.
In a Facebook post, MASS announced that its last day of business would be Sept. 23, with music performances from Royal Sons, North by North, and Summit Valley.
Venue officials added that they are working with artists booked after the scheduled closing to find venues to relocate shows.
“To all the bands, fans, artists, and friendly patrons, we can't possibly tell you how much we appreciate you,” the Facebook post reads. “This venue existed because of you, and we will be forever grateful.”
A team of investors united to bring a music venue to the corner of Rosedale and South Main in 2017.
A handful of hats owned the venue, but TJ Webber and Ryan Higgs, both musicians, were the masterminds. Other leads included Chat Room Pub and The Usual co-owner Jon Carney, Oil Boom bassist Steve Steward, and Fort Worth musician Sean Russell of Cut Throat Finches, whom we chatted with last year.
On its first of business, MASS was already bona fide, turning its grand opening into a day to remember. Oil Boom, Heater, and K.A + the A’s were the headliners that day, April 29, 2017.
Since then, MASS has been a center stage on this part of town for local music acts, events, and comedy.
“This venue has given us so many meaningful and irreplaceable moments,” local band Henry the Archer comments on the Facebook post, one of a number lamenting the news. “The sound on that stage created a beautifully immersive experience every time. Grateful for those memories.”
