Fixture Kitchen and Social Lounge
Fixture Kitchen and Social Lounge is one restaurant that's opted to open this weekend.
Governor Greg Abbott's announcement that restaurants can reopen their dining rooms at 25% capacity starting Friday caused quite the stir within the Fort Worth food scene. Some restaurants remain hesitant to open, while others are jumping at the opportunity, opening the moment restrictions are lifted.
So, will you be seeing our editors out and about this weekend?
Brian Kendall: My instincts are at war with one another. My first thought went something like, “No way am I visiting a restaurant 25% occupied by unsanitized, unfacemasked people.” But then my instincts as a journalist kicked in, which lends itself to extreme curiosity. In a way, it’s my job to experience, even if it goes against my gut, and report on those experiences. So, yes, I will be doing my best to social distance while I enjoy lunch at my favorite Fort Worth diner. And you’ll, hopefully, read about it on Friday.
Scott Nishimura: My family and I love to eat out. And through COVID-19, we've been bringing a lot of Fort Worth's best shelter-in-place takeout into our home, from family-style cooking to Chinese, pizza, Italian, barbecue, ice cream, tacos, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and fried chicken. We've felt guilty about the restaurants we haven't been able to support yet. We definitely can't wait to go out again. But I think we're going to wait awhile longer.
Samantha Calimbahin: Frankly, probably not. Without clear evidence the pandemic is indeed dying down, I just don't feel comfortable going out unless I absolutely have to. That being said, I see this both ways — yes, we want to keep everyone healthy by social distancing, but at the same time, people need work and businesses need customers to survive. Personally, though, I'll keep supporting my favorite local spots through pickup and delivery at least for the next few weeks. And if I do need to step into the world, I'll be wearing a mask.
