Brau Chips are comin’ for y’all, Benbrook.
Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House’s newest location on the Interstate 20 frontage road, just off Highway 377, is nearing completion. Owner Aron Fogiel says the 4,600-square-foot restaurant has “updated décor that we think will have broader appeal,” with a row of clerestory windows, less barn wood on the walls and lighter gray tones to create a brighter, “more energetic” interior. A wall of garage-style sliding doors can fully expose the entire left side of the restaurant to its 1,100-square-foot patio.
While there are no locations left in Dallas County today, Hoffbrau Steaks originated in Dallas back in 1978. The University location opened in 1982, and Aron and Rainey Fogiel took over operations in 1986 (Aron Fogiel is also responsible for launching Texas Land and Cattle in 1992 but sold his interest in 2004).
The concept recently rebranded to Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House to highlight the rest of the menu.
"Our chicken fried steak runs neck and neck with our ribeye in sales," Aron Fogiel says.
The restaurant also brought back its popular fried mushroom last year, with an improved recipe, and upgraded its meat from a "choice product" to certified angus beef.
“The change ensures greater consistency with a higher fat content and better marbling,” Fogiel says. “Where choice beef comes from five different breeds of cattle, we decided to go with all angus beef.”
And, of course, there’s Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House’s ever-popular Brau Chips — those baskets piled high with freshly fried and crispy potato chips, served with a side of creamy garlic ranch dip.
The Benbrook location will join four others on University Drive near the zoo, Haltom City, Amarillo and Granbury. Fogiel says the new restaurant is aiming for a mid-July opening.
