The Camp Bowie faithful has a little over a month left to enjoy Dough Boy Donuts while it's in Fort Worth — the doughnut shop announced Thursday it's moving to Burleson, joining The Standard at Chisenhall development along West Hidden Creek Parkway.
Dough Boy Donuts' last day in Fort Worth is Oct. 25, and owner Melvin Roberson hopes to open the Burleson location by December.
Roberson says leaving Fort Worth is "bittersweet," though the Camp Bowie location had its limitations with parking and walkability. He says the opportunity to move "fell into my lap" when he was approached by The Standard at Chisenhall's landlord, Timothy Windmiller, a longtime friend.
At 1,400 square feet, the new space will be a little smaller than the former, but Roberson plans to keep a small dining area with a vintage feel and warm, rustic finishes. While doughnuts remain the highlight of the menu, Roberson would also like to expand breakfast and brunch offerings, with a focus on savory items like breakfast sandwiches and burgers. He also plans to offer more coffee options alongside the shop's signature fresh-squeezed orange juice.
"[Leaving Camp Bowie] will be bittersweet, but it will be a fresh start," Roberson says.
