Fixture, chef Ben Merritt's popular brunch spot on West Magnolia, has closed its doors after eight years of serving up Texas cheesesteaks and chicken and waffles. Citing labor, food costs, and a decline in business, the restaurant permanently closed its doors Monday, Nov. 7.
The restaurant's patio and menu, which included truffle mac and cheese, pork carnitas flatbread, brunch steak enchiladas, and classic avocado toast, made the restaurant a popular choice among Fort Worth's southsiders.
For Merritt, this follows last year's closing of Ben's Triple B's, a burger, biscuit, and beer concept that opened two years prior near Texas Wesleyan University. Yet, the chef and restaurateur's new restaurant, the high-end Fitzgerald, appears to be thriving off Camp Bowie Boulevard.
According to our friend Bud Kennedy at the Star Telegram, the closing comes on the heels of a bevy of restaurant news coming out of the city's Near Southside.
Harvest Bread Co., located at 1305 W. Magnolia Ave., announced they are for sale; and the Pantry's co-founder, Hao Tran, left The Pantry, a dumpling shop at 713 W. Magnolia Ave. Tran continues to operate The Table and Hao & Dixya.
