After all that grease from our August cover feature, this month's unofficial celebration of the American staple meal comes to a grand finale with Fort Worth Burger Week, kicking off Monday and running through Sunday.
Hosted by What's Up Fort Worth, the site that rounds up all the city's happenings in one online event calendar, Fort Worth Burger Week returns for its third year and features more than 40 local restaurant participants offering $5 specialty burgers, along with daily giveaways and one grand prize — a Big Green Egg — courtesy of fwgrills.com.
Participating restaurants include The Bearded Lady, Rodeo Goat, Tommy's Hamburger Grill, and Wild Acre Brewing Co.'s Camp Bowie location, among others.
Fort Worth Burger Week is also known for its philanthropic focus — restaurants pay a participation fee, 100% of which goes toward the Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB), in partnership with the North Texas Food Bank. According to TAFB, COVID-19 has affected an estimated 45 million people (that's one in seven Americans), with 550,000 individuals battling food insecurity across the 13 counties served by the food bank.
Additionally, the event is meant to "stimulate business for restaurants during what historically is a slow time of the year, the summer months," according to Fort Worth Burger Week.
The event has grown since its initial launch in 2019, when it featured 23 Fort Worth restaurants. New this year is the participation of Denton County, which has 13 restaurants participating.
