It’s been a minute since CosMc, an orange extraterrestrial character who appeared in McDonalds commercials from 1986 – 1992, has landed on planet earth. After 30 years or so, this character’s backstory became the basis and name of McDonald’s latest spin-off, which is tapping into the drink concept Starbuck’s has made into an international institution.
According to the CosMc’s website, CosMc the alien would often drop by McDonaldland on “trade missions” to steal food and take it home to CosMcland.
“But during one mission in the late '80s, CosMc got all six hands on McDonald's menu items...and never returned. But CosMc began experimenting with these menu items alongside some unique beverages; ones that would not only complement the food, but stand alone as the perfect mood boost for all beings. As the curious creature began slinging these beverages to fellow aliens, it didn't take long before the entire planet wanted more. Fast.”
CosMc's
This is the narrative McDonald’s put into place to launch its new fast-food spin-off CosMc’s, a new beverage-heavy concept that boasts some unique food items also available on McDonald’s original menu. This concept first launched in the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook, Illinois last fall. It’s second locale, as fate would have it, opened in North Texas last week at 6033 Campbell Road in Dallas.
The menu at CosMc’s consists of signature galactic boosts like a sour cherry energy burst, or a blueberry ginger boost. Other drink offerings on the menu include iced teas and lemonades as well as slushes, frappes, and various offerings of both hot and cold brewed coffees.
The food on the menu spans from McDonald’s staples as the egg McMuffin all the way to several takes on the classic McFlurry. New food items that are available on the CosMc’s menu include snack items like savory has brown bites, a snack box that comes with a mix of thick smoked gouda cheese, sliced pepperoni, flax seed crackers, a handful of almonds, and dried cranberries.
Other food items on the menu include a variation of McPops, that come in several flavors, such as hazelnut, cookie butter, and apple cinnamon. There is also sea salt chocolate chip and blueberry lemon cookies as well as a caramel fudge brownie sure to satiate any sweet tooth. Add to this a four-sundae offering and three twist cone flavors and you have a snack plan created to get anyone through the doldrums of the “3 p.m. slump.”
But Dallas isn’t the only DFW spot that will host a CosMc’s. According to state filings, another CosMc's is set to open at 5341 McPherson Blvd. in Fort Worth. Outside of that, two other spots set to open in Watauga on April 2nd, at 7304 Denton Highway and in Arlington at 300 East Abram St. suite 150 on April 8th, according to a release.
“At CosMc’s, you'll find exactly what you need to take you to your happy place,” the website states. “And you'll feel rejuvenated by more than just a drink. We know that everyday life can weigh us down. So[,] we're on a mission to lift humans up with every sip.”
