NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMARY:
Lined with charming sidewalks, ornamental street lights and lush trees, Berkeley Place homes are primarily one and two-story brick and stucco houses. Many homes have detached garages, mother-in-law suites and guest cottages originally built as servant's quarters. Berkeley Place is a prime location for any Fort Worth resident as it's in close proximity to TCU, downtown and the most popular landmark in the DFW metroplex, the Fort Worth Zoo. Rich in history, the neighborhood is bordered by Park Place to the north, the railroad track on the east, Ward Parkway on the south and Rockridge Terrace on the west.
The land now known as Berkeley Place was originally part of the 1850 Mexican Government's Peters Colony. It was then purchased to build a grain and dairy farm. That farmhouse still exists today at 2230 Warner Road. The farmhouse was restored in the 1920's by it's owner “Pappy” Lee O'Daniel who went on to become Governor of Texas. Berkeley Place is also home to The Forest Park Apartments, built in 1928 and the first “skyscraper” apartments in Fort Worth.
