How does a Canadian-born little girl turn into a Texas country singer? Katy Keenie shares her story.
How did you end up in Texas?
My dad was a horse trainer, and one day he heard a song by George Strait and said, "We've got to move to Texas. That's where all the horses are." I wrote Blame It On George about that.
What advice can you give to other young musicians?
Keep hitting the pavement and working hard every day. Go out and play any kind of gig you can. Today, playing an instrument and singing by yourself [without a band] is a big deal. If you work at your craft, you'll only get better and better.
What's next for you?
I'm already moving forward with making more new music. I'll be recording a four-song acoustic project. I've always wanted to do that. We'll put that out toward the end of this year. I'll be doing more YouTube videos for my songs, too.
